Razorpay is the default gateway for a large share of Indian websites and apps because one checkout covers UPI, cards, netbanking and wallets. Its products range from no-code Payment Links and Payment Pages, which suit a handful of fixed-price items, to Standard Checkout inside your own site, Subscriptions for recurring charges, and Route for splitting a payment between your account and linked vendor accounts.
For a checkout on your own site, the order must be created on your server through the Orders API, with the amount in paise, before the Razorpay popup opens. After payment, your backend recomputes the HMAC-SHA256 signature over the order ID and payment ID using your key secret and compares it with the one returned; skipping that check lets a tampered response mark an order paid. A webhook endpoint, validated with its own separate secret, listens for events such as payment.captured and order.paid so orders still complete when a customer's browser never comes back.
Recurring billing runs through Razorpay plans and subscriptions, with UPI Autopay or card mandates collected at the first payment. Plans can't be edited once created, so the agent sets up a naming scheme that makes future price changes painless. All development uses test mode keys; account activation, KYC and enabling international cards are reviewed by Razorpay itself, and the handover lists exactly which dashboard settings to confirm before you switch to live keys.
